According to the BBC, the Barcelona attack was a part of a bigger plan to carry out more attacks.
The attack in Barcelona left 14 people dead and at least 130 people injured. The BBC reported that the attackers wanted to use explosives but their plan was thwarted after their bomb materials were destroyed in a house explosion.
The house where they were making their bombs exploded after a gas canister exploded.
So instead of aborting the plan all together, the attackers decided to use a van to carry out their attacks.
The police have killed five suspected terrorists in Cambrils who were believed to be involved in the attack in Barcelona.
According to NBC, the five suspected terrorists were wearing suicide belts when the police encountered them.
Fortunately, the belts didn’t detonate and the police were able to get the belts and detonate them in a more confined, controlled space.
The police have arrested five people in connections with the attack. The person who drove the van is still on the loose.
One of the suspects, Driss Oukabir, went down to the police station, denying any involvement.
According to Heavy, Oukabir posted anti-Semitic and anti-Western views, as well as Nazi propaganda, on his Facebook page.
The page has been removed. The police have arrested Driss Oukabir and are looking for his younger brother, Moussa Oukabir, who they believe was also involve.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack. As a result of the attack yesterday, Spain’s officials and officials at the U.S. Embassy in Spain have asked everyone to not hang around the popular tourist site, Las Ramblas, where the attack occurred.
The Madrid train bombing in 2004 is the last time Spain had a major terrorist attack.
The attack in 2004 resulted in almost 200 people being killed.
Several world leaders have come out, giving their support to Spain and condemning the attacks.
